WACO, Texas (KWTX) – SB energy’s Orion Solar Belt is made up of three solar farms that have a total of 1.3 million solar modules and took over 25 million dollars to complete and will power Google’s data centers in Dallas.

Jaime Carlson with SB Energy says the plant is over 900 megawatts, spans across five thousand acres and aims to improve the local economy.

“We are working with 27 different landowners, renting acres from them and bringing them new economic revenue streams that they can use on their land, and in some cases, we are actually getting to share land,” Carlson said.

Buckholts ISD’s principal, Alushka Driska, was approached by SB officials when they wanted to rent some of her land, and says they were very communicative and transparent during the process.

“As soon as we knew that they were coming in they reached out to us immediately our project managers were amazing they make a point to visit the families at their home, everything was a kitchen table conversation,” Driska said.

Driska was able to connect SB officials to her school district, and SB energy is now making plans to make much needed upgrades to the school.

“They started coming out and doing tours of the campus with me and my maintenance manager, and really saw the need that we had, they have committed 150 thousand dollars to help us renovate our bathrooms and our plumbing,” Driska said.

Carlson says that they are here to stay and do their part in helping the community.

“Ideally, we are showing up to be a long-term partner and understanding the priorities of our local community.”
